Just a few weeks shy of graduation, Amanda Standing Bear traveled to the capitol in Pierre, SD to be honored by Governor Dennis Daugaard as one of the state’s highest achieving high school seniors. As principal Robin Johnson looked on smiling, Amanda was recognized for her extraordinary accomplishments at the 23rd Annual Academic Excellence Banquet.
A winner of the prestigious Horatio Alger Scholarship, Amanda has maintained one of the highest GPA’s at Red Cloud. She was accepted to nearly every college on her list—including University of Notre Dame, University of Miami, Creighton University and American University. Now, she’s looking forward to her next stop at Dartmouth College where she plans to major in East Asian studies with dreams of traveling abroad and becoming a World War II historian.
