Red Cloud Elementary, Our Lady of Lourdes basketball teams to scrimmage Saturday as part of family fun event

Red Cloud High School will host a basketball scrimmage with boys from Red Cloud Middle School and Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2010. The event, which brings students and families from the two schools together, will be held in the Paul “Dizzy” Trout Fieldhouse on Red Cloud’s Pine Ridge campus.
The afternoon event is sponsored by Red Cloud’s 21st Century Program, a comprehensive initiative that offers 600 Lakota students and their families the additional tools and resources they need to succeed both in- and out-of-the-classroom. Red Cloud’s program includes weekend educational and recreational field trips, summer school programming both at Red Cloud and at residential camps around the Black Hills region, and a number of Family Activity Nights to draw students and parents closer to the school.
“This event will bring the communities of Red Cloud Elementary and Our Lady of Lourdes together as one larger family,” says TJ Lynch, program director. “Red Cloud High School is a neutral ground for our elementary schools, as we want to encourage all our families to visit both our campuses as one large community.”
Tickets to the event are free, and include a coupon for a hotdog, bag of chips and a drink. The ticket is also good for entrance to the high school’s basketball games against Chadron. Prizes will be given away. The first 120 fans from each school will receive a free cowbell.
